What I offer...

The core of my work is therapy, also referred to as counselling or psychotherapy, with both young people and adults. I also offer some assessment and report writing, as well as specialised work with neurodiversity (ADHD and ASD).

Therapy for adults

Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counselling, is a collaborative effort between a trained professional and an individual to improve mental health and well-being. It's a safe space for open and honest conversations about thoughts, feelings, and experiences.   This involves talking openly and honestly about the client's thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and confidential setting. There are many reasons why adults might seek therapy. Some common reasons include:

  • Mental health conditions: such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders
  • Life transitions: such as job loss, divorce, or bereavement
  • Relationship problems: such as conflict with partners, family members, or friends
  • Personal growth: such as wanting to improve self-esteem, communication skills, or coping mechanisms

Therapy can take many different forms, but the overall goal is to help the client understand their challenges, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and improve their quality of life.

Some of the benefits of therapy include:

  • Reduced symptoms of mental health conditions
  • Improved emotional well-being
  • Increased self-awareness and understanding
  • Better communication and relationship skills
  • More effective coping mechanisms for stress and challenges
  • Greater sense of purpose and fulfilment

Therapy can be a life-changing experience, and it can help you to live a happier and healthier life.

Therapy for children and adolescents

Therapy for young people, also known as child and adolescent therapy, is a collaborative process between a trained therapist and a young person, typically aged between 3 and 18, that aims to improve their mental health and well-being. Just like adult therapy, it involves talking openly and honestly about the young person's thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and confidential setting.

There are many reasons why young people might seek therapy. Some common reasons include:

  • Mental health conditions: such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and eating disorders
  • Difficult life experiences: such as bullying, abuse, trauma, or grief
  • Academic or social challenges: such as trouble at school, peer pressure, or social anxiety
  • Family problems: such as divorce, parental conflict, or living in a blended family
  • Personal growth: such as wanting to improve self-esteem, communication skills, or coping mechanisms

Therapy for young people can take many different forms, but the overall goal is to help the young person understand their challenges, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and improve their quality of life.

Some of the benefits of therapy for young people include:

  • Reduced symptoms of mental health conditions
  • Improved emotional well-being
  • Increased self-awareness and understanding
  • Better communication and relationship skills
  • More effective coping mechanisms for stress and challenges
  • Greater sense of self-confidence and resilience

If you are considering seeking therapy for a young person in your life, it is important to find a qualified therapist who specializes in working with children and adolescents. There are many different types of therapists and approaches to therapy, so it is important to find someone who you and the young person feel comfortable with and who has experience working with the specific issues you are facing.

Therapy can be a life-changing experience for young people, and it can help them to develop into happy and healthy adults.

People with neurodiversity

 Embracing Difference, Unlocking Strengths...

Working with people with neurodiversity means recognising and valuing the unique strengths and perspectives they bring, while also understanding and supporting their different needs and communication styles. It's not about "fixing" anyone, but about helping you reach your potential. That's what the slogan of Leazes Clinical Psychology is based on.

Unfortunately, the world sometimes seems unwelcoming or unsupportive of people with neurodiversity. And that's where I can help. My focus is on helping you fully understand what's going on in your brain and how it can affect you on an everyday basis. As a clinical psychologist, I help with things like coping strategies, organisational skills, and the other effects of living with a neurodivergent brain in a world that sometimes feels too conventional!
