Hello, I'm Dr Alex Hull. I'm a clinical psychologist working in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Carlisle, Northumberland, and online. I offer therapy to children, adolescents, and adults who would like to improve their mental health and develop coping strategies and skills.
I specialise in working with people who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression as well as with neurodiversity. I have lots of experience in working with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
I have worked for many years in the NHS, public services, and in private practice. I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). As a clinical psychologist, I am trained in other approaches including psychotherapy, DBT based approaches, mindfulness based approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), who are the regulator of health and care professions, including clinical psychologists, in the UK.
When you get in touch with me, you will always be treated with kindness and respect. You will never have to wait to access support, and I will only provide support if I am confident that I can make a positive difference to your mental health.
Feel free to explore my site and get in touch if you’d like any more information or to arrange a free 15 minute consultation appointment.
I specialise in working with common mental health disorders, including anxiety and depression.
As both a dad and experienced CAMHS clinician, I understand young people. My approach will help them feel comfortable so that they can make the most of our sessions.
I know what it's like to live with a brain that can feel hard to understand and manage. I specialise in working with people who have ADHD and/or Autism (ASD) as well as many other cognitive differences.
Anxiety is a normal emotion, but when it becomes excessive and persistent, it crosses the line into a health concern. It's that uneasy, worried, or fearful feeling that can range from mild to overpowering. While everyone experiences anxiety occasionally, those with anxiety disorders face it more intensely and frequently, impacting their daily lives.
Depression isn't just feeling down or sad for a few days. It's a persistent, heavy weight that disrupts daily life and casts a shadow on everything you do. Imagine carrying a dark cloud around with you. People with depression experience low mood, loss of interest in activities, changes in sleep/appetite, struggling to concentrate, and many others.
Addiction is a chronic brain disease characterised by compulsive substance use or behaviour despite harmful consequences, trapping individuals in a cycle of seeking and using that distorts their perception of pleasure and reward. Addiction arises from a complex interplay of genetics, environment, and psychology, leading to cravings, tolerance, and a loss of control.
We're all different. Understanding and embracing your neurodiversity empowers you to understand and use your unique strengths and perspectives, unlocking your potential and helping you live a fulfilled life.
Including anger managment issues, bereavement, developing coping skills, OCD, gender issues, relationship issues, self-esteem problems, sleep problems, stress, trauma.
"Thank you again for your help, guidance, and support. I know you'll be reluctant to take too much credit, but without your help I may not have been here to have the positive experiences I've had this year. You were a part of that journey and I'm eternally grateful for that"
"This is great!"
"(Anonymous) said you've been a really big help to him in many ways and enabled him to put certain things in context. Both he and I are very grateful for you to that, and I also appreciate your integrity in not dragging the sessions on for longer than would have been beneficial. You're a top man, Alex, and I wish you all the best.
